Blue Dye Penetrant Inspection Testing
At WCR UK we use a Dye-Testing method with a proprietary blue dye to find even the smallest cracks or issues on heat exchanger plates. While this method takes more time we use it because it’s highly reliable. Catching these defects early prevents problems later on, saving time and money in the long run. Integrity testing using helium is also an option.
Dye Penetration Test Procedure
Once cleaned, each plate undergoes a meticulous inspection for signs of corrosion, holes, or cracks using the dye penetrant testing method, a technique rooted in aviation practices.
This ensures even the tiniest hairline cracks are detected. The plates are coated with a fluorescent paint, and after a set period, they’re examined under UV light in a dimmed room. Any compromised plates are marked and set aside.
The undamaged plates undergo another high-pressure cleaning. They’re also assessed for any deformations and the state of their gasket grooves, which are refined if needed ready for regasketing.
