Rigorous
Reduced false positives. Detects leaks as small as 10^-12 cc/sec, far more sensitive and reliable than other methods.
Fast Results
Provides quick, accurate leak detection for minimal downtime.
Reliable
Retained water in the Heat Exchanger is not an issue. Can be used on Plate, Tubular & Scraped Surface Heat Exchangers.
Environmentally Friendly
Helium is inert, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. No physical contaminants are used.
What is Helium Integrity Testing?
Helium integrity testing is an advanced leak detection method that uses helium as a tracer gas. Helium is ideal for this purpose because its atoms are extremely small, allowing it to pass through microscopic leaks that would be undetectable with other methods.
Helium also disperses safely, leaves no residue, and moves freely through retained water, ensuring faster, cleaner and more accurate results that are ideal for hygiene-sensitive sectors such as food, dairy, brewing and pharmaceuticals.
Our helium integrity testing is also non-destructive and requires no dismantling, ensuring minimal downtime.
WCR UK utilises the patented Accutest system for helium integrity testing. The test involves circulating helium through one side of a plate heat exchanger and air on the other side whilst testing for any crossover.
Our Helium Testing Process
Our comprehensive testing process ensures thorough detection of even the smallest leaks
Preparation
The heat exchanger is isolated and prepared for testing, ensuring all connections are secure.
Helium Introduction
Our patented helium/nitrogen gas mix is introduced on the opposite side using dynamic flow.
Detection
The process identifies micro-cracks and pinholes with a sensitivity that far surpasses traditional water or dye-based in situ testing methods.
Analysis
Results are analyzed to pinpoint exact leak locations and severity.
Reporting
Comprehensive documentation is provided with all findings and recommendations.
Helium Testing vs Salt Testing
| Feature | Helium Testing | Salt Testing |
|---|---|---|
| False Positives | Minimal false positives | Higher rate of false positives |
| Environmental Impact | Environmentally friendly, no contaminants | Requires disposal of salt solution |
| Equipment Compatibility | Works on all heat exchanger types | Limited to certain configurations |
| Testing Frequency | Recommended every 12 months | May require more frequent testing |
| Downtime | Minimal - quick results | Extended downtime required |
